Maria Dahl-Smith is associate director of Communications and Development for the Hispanic Initiatives Division. She began her Scouting career in 1989 in the Relationships Division. In 1992, she joined the Electronic Publishing Division as a bilingual editor. Since April 1998, Mrs. Dahl-Smith has served as an account executive in the Custom Communication Division, working with Boy Scout Division professionals, volunteer members, subject experts, and industry leaders to create and maintain all publications and multimedia communication material for the Boy Scout Division. Among the pieces her team created are the Boy Scout Handbook, the Fieldbook, the 120-title merit badge pamphlet series, and adult and youth training manuals including Wood Badge for the 21st Century and National Youth Leadership Training. Mrs. Dahl-Smith also oversaw Spanish-language translation and production services for all national BSA Spanish-language multimedia projects.
Mrs. Dahl-Smith holds a bachelor of science degree in international business and a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish from Oklahoma State University. She is certified as a Spanish-language translator and interpreter and is a member of the American Translators Association, the National Hispanic Business Association, the Dallas Concilio of Hispanic Service Organizations, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and other Hispanic and Latino associations.
Mrs. Dahl-Smith and her husband, Randall, have three children, a daughter Randi Marie, and two sons, Blake and Matthew.
