As a 43-year Scouting veteran, Kent Clayburn is carrying on a family tradition
that dates back to 1917. He has served the BSA at every level, focusing his
efforts on bringing programs and outdoor experiences to as many young
people as possible and on developing an infrastructure in local councils to better
support international Scouting.
Mr. Clayburn held many unit and district positions before becoming a
district chair, council president, and area president. He has taught courses at the
Philmont Training Center and served on the staffs of six national jamborees and four
world jamborees. After holding several international Scouting positions, he became
chair of the International Committee and joined the National Executive Board in 2006.
A third-generation Eagle Scout, Mr. Clayburn is a recipient of the District
Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver Award (also awarded to his father and grandfather),
and the Silver Antelope Award. He supports Scouting through memberships in the 1910
Society, the Baden-Powell World Fellowship, and the Order of the Condor.
Outside of Scouting, Mr. Clayburn is an active community volunteer. As president
of the San Francisco Bond Club, he raised funds to bring financial education to
both public and private high schools. He has worked with both boys and girls in youth
sports programs and coached high-school basketball for 10 years.
A senior vice president with Morgan Stanley, Mr. Clayburn holds a
bachelor’s degree from California State University–Chico and a master’s degree
in business administration from St. Mary’s College, California.
Mr. Clayburn and his wife, Constance, have a son, Evan (an Eagle Scout), and
one daughter, Alexis.
